(I had started writing a new collection of poetry in 2020, just before COVID hit, to have been titled: "Moving On." I never finished it, and no longer have the desire to. Still, I wrote these and there's no reason not to share them.)

You helped me finally stand up to him.

No one had ever cared to try before.

I remember I used to be so scared,

And then one day, I wasn't anymore.

You gave us the gift of a new normal,

My children and I.

We finally have someone supportive

And encouraging.

Someone who never backs down.

I spent so long looking for a knight

In all the wrong places.

Then you walked into my life

From out of nowhere,

And suddenly I knew

I could wield my own sword.

"Good morning, Vietnam!"

Some of you can probably hear Robin Williams saying those words, and remember the emotions that came along with watching that movie...
